We have 4 devices connected to an 8-port Switch. Each device is numbered starting with 0, and each port of the Switch is also numbered starting with 0.

Device 0 has MAC address 18-59-33-8D-FB-59 and is connected to port 0 of the Switch.

Device 1 has MAC address 00-0F-66-5C-5C-D6 and is connected to port 1 of the Switch.

Device 2 has MAC address 00-22-6B-A9-B9-E8 and is connected to port 2 of the Switch.

Device 3 has MAC address 44-E0-8E-32-E6-82 and is connected to port 3 of the Switch.

The Switch and all the devices are cold-started, and the following Ethernet frames are sent on the network in sequence:

Frame 0 (source 18-59-33-8D-FB-59 destination 00-0F-66-5C-5C-D6)

Frame 1 (source 00-22-6B-A9-B9-E8 destination 00-0F-66-5C-5C-D6)

Frame 2 (source 00-22-6B-A9-B9-E8 destination 44-E0-8E-32-E6-82)

Frame 3 (source 00-0F-66-5C-5C-D6 destination 18-59-33-8D-FB-59)

Frame 4 (source 44-E0-8E-32-E6-82 destination 18-59-33-8D-FB-59)

Frame 5 (source 44-E0-8E-32-E6-82 destination 00-22-6B-A9-B9-E8)

Explanation / Answer

The switch checks each frame it recieve to make a packet forwarding decision based on the destination address in the frame. The frames which have same destination Mac address with port Mac address will be send from that port.

Ans 2(a) Port0 : Frame 3 and Frame 4

Ans 2(b) Port 1: Frame 0 and Frame 1

Ans 2(c) Port 2 : Frame 5

Ans 2(d) Port 3 : Frame 2
