Problem 2: Refrigerator Toy Problem, Re-visited (35 points) In Homework 3, you defined stakeholder needs and functional/ performance requirements for a refrigerator. In this problem, you will consider how to verify and validate those needs and you will also define new non-functional (-ilities) requirements. For the questions below, please use the following stakeholder needs /requirements for the refrigerator: Stakeholder need: Need to look stylish in the kitchen Requirements . System shall have a stainless steel exterior · Storage spaces shall be closed by pushing on latch with force greater than or equal to l Mb . Freezer shall maintain temperature at +1° of user input Storage spaces shall allocate 90% of internal volume to food storage. · Part A) Which requirement could be verified by test? Why? Describe how you envision the test (5 points) Part B) Which requirement could be verified by demonstration? Why? Describe how you envision the demonstration. (5 points) Part C) Which requirement could be verified by inspection? Why? (5 points) Part D) Which requirement could be verified by analysis? Why? Describe how you envision the analysis (5 points) Part E) How could the stakeholder need be validated? (5 points) Part F) Identify two -ilities that may be important to the refrigerator's primary stakeholders. Define each -ility and explain how it applies to the refrigerators operation. (10 points)

Explanation / Answer

Verified by test: testing is done for physical parameters including the temperature of the freezer. Testing is done to generate data over several trials till the criteria is met. Here, the freezer temperature should be maintained between +/-1 degree of user input and so testing with a temperature gauge such as thermometer would give data whether the refrigerator is meeting the said criteria.

Verified by demonstration is the verification of needs by showing the stakeholder the functionality in question, Here in the case of the closure of the storage spaces, the force needs to be in the range of greater than or equal to 1ft/lb and by demonstarting the closure by applying pressure the stakeholder can verify whether this criteria can be achieved or not.

Verified by Inspection: Inspection is a tool used for visually acquiring information about the product and whether it is meeting the saidcriteria. In this case the stakeholder's requirement is a complete stainless steel body which can be proved by verification by inspection.

Verfied by analysis: One of the criteria is that storage space should be able to allocate 90% of internal volume to food storage. This can be doen by analysing the components and their design and how they would fit against each other allowing for more space internally to meet the 90% criteria.

Stakeholder needs can be validated by taking an opinion poll or by satisfaction survey. The survey should be established in such a manner to gather the data about whether all teh requiremensta have been met or any further adjustmenst need to be made to enhance the stakeholder satisfaction of the product and its features.
