0.2 Study the following MUX circuit and answer the following. [5] i. How many input bits are there? ii. How many control signals are there? iii. How many NOT gates are there? iv. How many AND gates are there? v. How many OR gates are there? vi. How many inputs are there for each AND gate? a. What are the notations of each bit? a. What are the notations of each bit? vii. How many inputs are there in OR gate? vii. Why are 3 control signals there? Why not 2 or 4? ix. If the data selector input is 101 what would be output? x. Is this a kind of data selector?Explanation / Answer
i) There are 3 input bits a , b and c.
ii) There are 3 control signals a, b and c.
iii) There are 3 NOT gates.
iv) There are 6 AND gates.
v) There is 1 OR gate.
vi) For each AND gate there are 3 inputs.
vii) There are 6 inputs in the OR gate.
viii) There are three control signals because the circuit is outputting 6 possible combinations and we know that to represent 6 possible combinations we need atleast 3 bits as 23 = 8.
We cannot use 2 as 22 = 4 and 6 combinations cannot be there.
We can use 4 but why to use 4 when we can do it with 3.
ix) If the data selector input is 101 then the output is 1.
