Question
5 Break even analysis As mentioned in section 2, BP Whiting sells steam to a third party. Steam is produced via the duct burners and gas turbines, which are powered by fael For our analysis, we will simplify the system and assume that only the duct barmers produce steam. In this module, we will compute the price that BPmust charge in order to ensure that it can recover the cost of fuel used to produce the steam that is sold. 5.1 Deliverables Write a seript teanlaneBEcalcs.a that computes the price per quarter-hour that BP st charge per kip/hr of steam such that BP breaks even on the cost of fuel burned to produoe the steam The function should take inputs and produce outputs as described in tables 4 and 5, respec- tively The function should produce the following three plotx ·The atmount of money spent on fuel (fuel cost) over the time period [S/hr) as a solid line. The average fuel cost over this time period should be overlayed as a dashed red line. A red circle should be placed on the plot at the location of the lowest fuel cost, and a black square should be placed at the location of highest fael cost The plant steam usage over the supplied time period kip/h. This should inclule both the steam used to power (consumed) by the steam turbine, and the amount of steam sold to the private cliest Table 4: Inputs for teananEcalcs Variable name Data typ Description tStart tEnd Date Use FuelCost vector Price of fuel comsumed byr duct burners,S/millionBTU NatGasDensity full vector Volumetric energy density of natural gas [BTU/SCF db1Stean scalar integer Row index number for start of desired time period scalar integer Row index mber for end of desired time period full vector dates in MATLAB ormat full vector eam prouced by Turbine 1 and Duct Burner kip/hr db2Steam ll vector Total steam produced by Turbine 2 and Duct Burner 2 SteamFuelvector Steam consumed by the steam turbine kip/hr SteamProd lvector Power produced by the steam turbine MW SteamSoldvector Hourly mass rate of steam sold to private elient [kip/hr SalePrice ector Price per megaWatt bour of electricity sold to grid S/MWhrExplanation / Answer
Basically you have to write 2 scripts:
- teamNameBEdates.m :
Which will take all necessary inputs such as below:
- All the inputs described in table 4
- Three calls are made for : April 2013, January 2015, jan 22 2015. Specify tStart & tEnd for each of these time spans as per Date_use vector which will contain day wise fuel data for statistics.
- call teamNameBEclcs() with the inputs entered above
- teamNameBEclcs.m: This produces all the statistics for the time period between tStart & tEnd fetching values from Date_use.
- Calculate all the analysis data described in table 5
- plot three plots:
Amount of money vs time period
Steam usage over time
Break-even price per hour and break-even price on mass basis
