Which one do you think is the least important? If you had to skip one of the phases which one would it be and why? There are seven phases in the systems development life cycle. Explanation / Answer

Seven phases of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) are as follows:

Planning

Feasibility analysis

Product design

Coding

Implementation and Integration

Software Testing

Installation and Maintenance

The Planning phase is the vital phase where we gather requirements followed by designing phase. the criticality of the phases decreases as we proceed from requirement gathering to software release. Because, a wrong decision in a requirement phase or design phase can lead to the change of complete design or code. A mistake that is made in early phases will lead to a huge mess in code and test which is difficult to fix and proceed. These may badly affect the cost of the project.

The coding phase takes more time than other phases. Even though it requires more resources, paradoxically in many ways it is the least important of all the phases.

Testing is one of the important phase in SDLC as it is used to identify and rectify the bugs which may harm the performance and it helps in improving the solution.

A software product will not be complete if it does not cross any of the above seven phases. We should not miss out any phase if we need a quality outcome.
