Question

Mrs. R. k. Hill owner of Mountainside Industries has called you in as a consultant. Believing that tighter coordination among the divisions of her company was necessary, she created the post of general manager a year ago and hired Don Henson, as an experienced accountant, to fill it. Things have not worked out well, however, and she is seeking your advice. After studying the situation, you have come up with the following information. Write her a report-- accompanied by a letter of transmittal =-- advising her about what to do now.

Explanation / Answer

This report is supposed to advise Mrs. R. K. Hill on the difficulties she is facing with the four industries which merged some time back but are now falling apart. She has tried to save this by hiring Mr. Henson who is a qualified accountant to fill the place of a general manager in Mountainside industries but it is also not working in favor of this thus she is asking for help as the owner of these industries.

After going through what has been happening to your industries lately, it is evident that the unity that was there for thirty six years can be revived but this will have to impose rules and very strict ones for that matter. As a consultant, I suggest that as the owner of the Mountainside industries, you come with the rules with a panel and then present them to the four divisions but before doing that, you first need to know if the divisions are still interested in merging again or not because if they are not, then the rules will not work. If they are willing to merge again, I suggest that the rules you make have consequences when they fail to be met. That way, it will be easier to manage all of the four divisions without much difficulties. If the divisions are not willing to merge gain, I suggest you call for a seminar for all of the workers and bring along some experts who can talk them into merging of the divisions again, It has been thirty six years, there is so much to lose if they fail to agree but then I’m sorry Mrs. Hill but you will have to let go. Thank you so, much for choosing me as your consultant and I hope this piece of advice works for the best.

Letter of transmittal

Mr. Harris,

A consultant

Mrs. R. K. Hill,

Owner of Mountainside Industries,

Dear Mrs. R. K. Hill,

After asking me to be a consultant for the Mountainside Industries fraternity, I am writing this letter to you to let you know that I have provided some advice in the report that is accompanied by this letter informing you on what to do concerning your issue about the deprived work by the divisions.

I would like you to consider the advice on the report that I have attached so as to save the industries and revive them again. This being the thirty seventh year, I am sure you are an experienced leader and will definitely work it all out. I am kindly requesting that you send me a feedback on the progress of Mountainside Industries which I am hoping will be a positive feedback. When it gets to the rules part, please ensure that there is total open mindedness and make the consequences very strict. You could use consequences like firing, or a subsidized amount of the wage or rather salary depending on what you people do.

Please do make this rules wisely and I promise you that it will work for the good of Mountainside Industries. Thank you once again for picking me as your consultant and I am looking forward to a positive feedback.

If you have any enquiries, please contact me through this number (input phone no.) or through my email (input email address)

Sincerely,

Report accompanied by a transmittal letter.
