Q-5 Describe the importance of following services.
a) Directory Services,

b) Application Services,

Explanation / Answer

Local area network(LAN) – it is a group of associated devices and computers that share a common wireless link to the server. The LAN consists of computers and peripherals connected to a server in small geographic areas such as home or office or some building.

Wide area network(WAN)-it is a computer network that extends over large geographical distances and these are often established with telecommunication circuits that are leased.

Properties of LAN and WAN:

Frequency division multiplexing: This is a process in which many number of signals are combined for transmitting on a single channel. Each signal is assigned with a different frequency.

Time division multiplexing: this is a process that transmits and receives independent signals over a single signal by using synchronised switches at each end.

The components of a Wide area network are:

Difference between packet switching and circuit switching:

These are networking methods for transferring data between two hosts where data is transferred through individual packets in packet-switching and and is passed through circuits to other host. In circuit switching network,a static route is set-up and connections are established in prior to the host.

Importance of directory and application services:

Directory service: it defines the namespace for the network. It is the central information repository for service delivery platform. Replication and distribution have are two very different concepts in this .It helps in mapping out the names of network resources to their respective network addresses.

Application services: it provides computer based services to people over a network like access to software application using the standard Http.It provides various other services such as storage management and checking bids for an auction and etc.
