Question

1. You have been asked by the SecondHandRenewal , a local charity retail store that sells reused building products, to install a network in the store. The store has a large open area where products are displayed as well as two checkout counters, where a customer pays for purchases. The store has 1 separate office and a separate area in the back where donations are accepted. A donor has supplied 4 PCs with (Windows 7 operating system, a 2 Ghz processor, 1 Gb of memory and an 80GB hard drive). Each of the computers has a 100Mb UTP NIC in the motherboard. SecondHand Renewal owners are not too concerned with security because the network will need to only do the following:

share staff schedules

keep track of inventory including price and quantity information

keep track of how much is sold each day

Customers remain anonymous and are not tracked. The contents of the store come from donors, which are tracked by hand written receipts and will initially not be part of the network. SecondHandRenewal uses volunteers to run the store and the volunteers are not technical experts so a simple and easy to use solution is needed. In addition, SecondhandRenewal doesn’t have much money to spend on this project (less than $800).

What model type of network would you recommend and why given the available equipment and budget?

What hardware, software, and connectivity devices and/or media would have to be purchased in order to make your solution work? (list any items with their associated prices)

Where would the computers be placed and what software applications should they contain to implement the three needs listed above?

Is there anything else you would recommend that the chief volunteer does on a regular basis?

Explanation / Answer

These below given store places are required the network set ups.

Place 1: Checkout Counters

The store has a large open area where products are displayed as well as two checkout counters,
where a customer pays for purchases

Place 2: separate office

The store has 1 separate office.

Place 3: separate area

a separate area in the back where donations are accepted.

System Requirements:

4 PCs with (Windows 7 operating system, a 2 Ghz processor, 1 Gb of memory and an 80GB hard drive).
Each of the computers has a 100Mb UTP NIC in the motherboard.

Total project Cost is less than $800 and no need to worry about the security in store

Based on the above information after analysing the best model as per my knowledge is Star Topology
to connect with 4 systems.

Star Topology :
All hosts in Star topology are connected to a central device, known as hub device, using a point-to-point connection. That is, there exists a point to point connection between hosts and hub. The hub device can be any of the following:

Layer-1 device such as hub or repeater
Layer-2 device such as switch or bridge
Layer-3 device such as router or gateway

PC 1: This PC will taking care about staffing schedules.

PC 2 and 3: These two PC's are taking care keep track of inventory including price and quantity information.

PC 4: This PC will be taking care about keep track of how much is sold each day

and finally all these all PC's are connected to central device to share the data between other PC's.

And one Microsoft Excel or any other Inventory tracking , Sold or coming to store and Staff Scheduling packages are needed.

I have no idea about the costs about the devices.
