However that one of your sub-contractors has it , at a very late stage you notice supplied you with a part having foreign made bolts in --but these aren't very noticeable, and would function identically to U.S. made bolts.Your customer urgently needs delivery of the finished produet-what should you do? Briefly explain why or why not you will choose each of the following four: Say nothing and deliver the product with the foreign bolts included, hoping this fact won't be noticed by the customer. Find (or, if necessary, invent) some roughly equivalent violation of the contract or specifications for which the customer (rather than your company) is responsible then tell them you will ignore their violation if they ignore your company's violation. Tell the customer about the problem, and let them decide what they wish you to do next. Put all your efforts into finding legal loopholes in the original specifications, or in the way they were negotiated, to avoid your company's appearing to have violated the specifications. a) b) e) d)

Explanation / Answer

c. Tell the customer about the problem, and let them decide what they wish you to do next.

We, as a Company, shall never wish to lose a customer and especially in the case, where the fault is not theirs. In fact, dealing with honesty would ensure a long-lasting relationship with the customer rather than concealing a relevant information and then trying to make up for it in whichever possible way, calling for more troubles such as legal complications, loss of goodwill before the Public and thereby impacting our sales volumes negatively, in extreme cases. Business ethics, when followed by the Company, could in turn help in building trust with the customers and in this case, if the customer is let known about the foreign-made bolt part, then in future, if something goes wrong with the overall product, at least, our Company shall not have the onus to be personally accountable for the same. Perhaps, the customer may also extend the time limit in order to grant with some more time to arrange for the US-made part and affix in the product. Hence, being frank and honest to the customer is the only feasible way out.
