Define the Halo effect and give an example.
Halo effect is using of a global characteristic like attractive and likable for determining anything that is specific to the personality trait such as outgoing or kind. Define the causal attribution distortion and give an example.
Casual Attribution distortion is a combination of symptom and source of prejudice. It is the impression that people have due to prejudice or any discrimination. For example, if the homelessness mothers’ plight is attributed to dispositional factors such as the poor character, lack of ability of living with the husband, personal laziness in the marriage relationship would lead to prejudice toward single mothers.
3.A) How might the eight junior employees perceive the equity of the workplace, and what might they do to ? Discuss with no less than 50 words.
The eight junior employees perceive that they do not receive fair rewards for the efforts they have put in the work. Equity is the employees’ perception of the reward whether they are fair or unfair for the contributions they put in to achieve the organizational goals. Cognitive dissonance can be reduced by reducing the importance of the conflicting belief. In this case, the conflicting belief is that the CEO earns $1million and there is another $1 million bonus which are not used for employee welfare and hence the employees are underpaid. As a CEO, I would provide employee benefits, and share some of the profits to the employees like bonus, employee welfare, etc. This would help in reducing the cognitive dissonance by reducing the conflicting belief that the employees are underpaid.
B)How might you go about correcting the perceptions of inequity? Make two suggestions.
