Question
Hi, I'm having problems with this question: it says, In a study of a population of Drosophila M. theresearches found that there is a single nucleotidepolymorphism in the IFGR locus with 2 alleles, X and Z. with the following absolute genotypic frequencies find thefrequency of allele X? X/X:10 X/Z:20 Z/Z:20 I used Hardy-Weinberg equation to solve it and Igot 0.4 for the X frequency but I don't know if I'm right : calculations:(10/50)+1/2(20/50)=0.4 then calculate the proportion of all matings between X/Z andZ/Z individuals? How can I calculate the proportion? thank you any help will be really appreciated. You got the allele frequency of the X allele right. now we can usethe Hardy-Weinberg equation to determine the frequency of Z; f(Z)= 1- f(X) = 1- 0.4 = 0.6 Now we think and draw a punnet square and determine the results iftwo X/Z and Z/Z individuals mated they would produce halfheterozygous and half homozygous Z individuals. now we use the gene frequencies to determine the gene frequency ofZ. which is f(Z)2= 0.36 and the gene frequency of X/Z = 2(X)(Z)= 0.48 so the proportion of matings between X/Z and Z/Z individuals isequal to 2( 0.36 * 0.48)= 0.3456 Please rate and comment, hope this helps!
