What areas of Business Ethics were invloved in "The scandal of the year 2013, the ‘National Security Agency-Edward Snowden’ ‘s scandalizing leaks"?
Edward Snowden is a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the Chief Intelligence Agency. Snowden will go down in history as one of America's most consequential whistleblowers, alongside Daniel Ellsberg and Bradley Manning. He is responsible for handing over material from one of the world's most secretive organisations – the National Security Agency. The scandal broke in early June 2013 when the Guardian, a daily newspaper, reported that the US National Security Agency (NSA) was collecting the telephone records of millions of Americans. The paper published the secret court order directing telecommunications company Verizon to hand over all its telephone data to the NSA on an "ongoing daily basis". That report was followed by revelations in both the Washington Post and Guardian that the NSA tapped directly into the servers of nine internet firms, including Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, to track online communication in a surveillance programme known as Prism.
When it came to this scandal what areas of busniess ethics were involoved Describe the exact nature of the alleged ethical violation?
Explanation / Answer
There were two sided ethics that were involved in this. First as they was the Business Ethics of Privacy and Secrecy which was broken by sharing the governments confidential documents while the Second Ethics was Social Ethics which was to protect the privacy right of the American Citizen.
While few legal aspects say that Snowden breached the Business Ethics by handing over the documents directly to the News paper agencies. Other feel that legally it was just the breach of contract with government and for more noble cause of social security.
Here the only ethical violation the NSA can claim is that its violation of secrecy and privacy. Apart from this there is no other violation that can be alleged towards Snowden's act.
