Question
Hide Description Black hat? White hat? Can we still tell the good guys and bad guys apart by the color of their hats? What is a hacker, a cracker, a phreaker, a script kiddie, a bot master, or a skimmer? Have you heard any of these terms? What makes them different from each other, in their positive and negative forms? Where did all this technology-base 'hacking' (to use the generic idea) come from, and do we consider hacking a crime, now? Is hacking always bad, or just a part of the technological landscape, and a pain of doing business with those pesky humans? Post your good topic, avoiding duplication with your classmates, and comment on three other topics, to open up the discussion for next week.Explanation / Answer
Although it is difficult to judge a guy just by looking at the colour of the hat but yes in many cases it is quite obvious to judge a guy by his hat colour. As according to behaviour, attitude and the type of task a guy performs he or she chooses to wear that colour hat which justifies his actions and attitude. A good guy will usually prefer to wear a white hat which signifies his clear intentions and a healhty and constructive task that the guy might perform on the contrary a bad guy chooses to wear a black hat which tends to make the person untraceble in dark. So a guy will choose a white hat or a black hat depending on his attitude behaviour and the type of task the guy performs.
Hacker : A hacker is a person who uses computer to have unauthorised access to data, network or a system
Cracker: A cracker is person who uses computer to break into copyrighted software of a ocmputer system in a network
Phreaker : A phreaker is term used for those people who study, examine and break into telecommonications system
Script kiddie: A script kiddie is a person who is unable to write his own script and uses the scipt of others to break into someon else`s system or a ntework
Bot master : A bot master who commands and controls the botnets for remote execution
Skimmer: A skimmer is a device that is attached to themouth of the ATM to hack the credit and debit cards of the users
Well although on hearing and reading about all these terms the first thing that comes to mind is illegaly breaking into someone`s computer to steal his information. But if we think in a proper way even a bad action can be chanelised into a proper direction to convert it into a good action. For example although hacking will always mean breaking into someone`s computer but it depends whether this time we are hacking the computer to help the police to track a person who has committed a big online fraud.
So, all these terms do mean a negative action but if use these actions to find and stop the wrong people from commiting online frauds then these terms become good terms
