Question

For this assignment you are to write a simple computer program that converts GPS coordinates (i.e. latitude and longitude) between three different relational forms. GPS coordinates ( latitude and longitude ) are given in degree s, north or south of the equator for latitude and along the equator for longitude. When this is not a whole number, ( which is usually the case ), the exact value can be expressed in any one of three commonly used forms: Decimal degree s, e.g. 42.87157 degree N x 87.64993 degree W degree s decimal minutes, e.g. 42 degree 52.294? N x 87 degree 38.996?W degree s minutes seconds, e.g. 42 degree 52? 17.64? x 87 degree 38? 59.76? W which would be read as: 42.87157 degree s north by 87.64993 degree s west 42 degree s 52.294 minutes by 87 degree s 38.996 minutes west 42 degree s 52 minutes 17.64 seconds by 87 degree s 38 minutes 59.76 seconds west. Note that in each case, only the last number has a fractional component, and all numbers preceding it are integers. ( I.e. in degree minute seconds form, the degree s and minutes are integers.) Conversion between the forms is fairly straightforward, knowing that there are 60 seconds in each minute and 60 minutes in each degree . So for example, to convert from degree s minutes seconds to decimal degree s, the mathematical formula would be:
