For this assignment I am asking that you find a current article that relates to the topics we learned in Chapter 9, "Foundations of Group Behavior." In your Current Event Reflection you will first recap the article so that I will understand, without reading the article, what it is about. Second, spell out for me how this article relates to one or more of the topics we read in Chapters 9. Finally, using what we have learned in this chapter, could we do anything differently in the article's situation to produce a better outcome?

This assignment should be at least 2 pages in length, but no more than 3 pages long. Your work should be doubled spaced, 12 font, and submitted via a Word Doc. You should also be sure to proof the assignment for spelling, sentence structure, punctuation, and proper APA Formatted citations. You are expected to reference from our text and your chosen article, thus you should have both sources listed in your Works Cited, again following APA Formatting.

Let's start with defining what is a group and the types of groups. Then let's see the stages involved in the group development. And finally the properties of the groups.
DEFINITION OF GROUPS & TYPE OF GROUPS
when a two or more individuals come together, interact and achieve a common objective, then it is called a group. There are two types of groups - Formal groups and Informal groups.
Formal groups are again divided into two groups - Command group and Task group. Informal groups are also divided into two groups - Interest group and friendship group.
Formal groups are a well structured work groups defined by the organizational structure. Informal groups are not formally structured groups. These are neither defined by the organizational structure. These groups are formed for social networking and social contacts. These groups are formed out of common interests and individual interests.
Formal groups are divided into two groups - Command group and Task group
Command Group : This is a group which consists of individuals who report directly to a assigned manager.
Task Group : This is a group which consists of individuals who work together to complete a certain task, towards a common goal.
Informal groups are divided into two types - Interest group and friendship group.
Interest group : This is a group where the individuals work together towards a specific objective and for a common goal.
Friendship group : This is a group where individuals are brought together to share one or more common characteristic.
STAGES OF GROUP DEVELOPMENT :
There are 5 stages in the group development.
1) Forming - This stage is characterized by a very high uncertainty
2) Storming - This stage is characterized by intra group conflicts
3) Norming - This stage is characterized by close relationships and cohesiveness
4) Performing - This is the stage where the group is fully functional.
5) Adjourning - This stage is concerned with wrapping up activities rather than task performance.
PROPERTIES OF GROUPS :
The properties of groups are - Role, Norms, Status, Size and Cohesiveness
Roles - All the group members have certain roles in hand, out of which some roles are compatible whereas some create conflicts.
A role conflict is a situation where an individual is confronted by the expectations.
Norms - These are acceptable standards of the behavior within a group that are shared by the group's members.
Status - This is a certain position given by the society. In other words, socially defined position given to a group by others.
Size - The size of the group matters a lot. A small group will be quick in completing the assigned tasks than the larger groups. Also, individuals perform better in the smaller groups rather than the larger groups.
Cohesiveness - It is a degree to which the group members are attracted towards each other and are motivated to stay in the group.
