Question

During this course, you have learned how argument is used to "offer a set of reasons or evidence in support of a conclusion," (Weston, 2009, p. xi). This is an important concept because "argument" typically has a negative connotation. Being able to support your views with clear and sound reasons is a very important skill in being an effective manager. This week you reviewed the course text, A Rulebook for Arguments. Based on your reading: Select two of the rules that either you or one of your associates have broken in the past. Illustrate an example of an incorrect and a correct use of each of these two rules. Discuss why the rules are important in formulating strong arguments.

By Day 3 Post a brief statement that summarizes what you have learned from the textbook. Include in your summary how this information will be helpful to you both personally and professionally. Could it be used in problem solving? Why or why not?

Explanation / Answer

Hi,

Thanks for the question.

This is a book regarding the arguments. This is in accordance with some of the rules that one should follow in order to make some valid points in the arguments. The whole purpose of the argument is to make some points and that too effectively. Only when you are able to put forward your points to the listener in a way that they are more impactful, you will be able to win more arguments.

This will help me in every aspect of life as this gives me a sense of how to communicate with the other person in order to have the authority over him to get my work done or putting forward our discussion in a right way.

This can be used in the problem solving as this gives me the clear understanding of both sides of perspective. This will help to make me understand other person's point of view as well so that we can make a directed decision.
