Question
having trouble with the calculation of dates
hey, so i have copied a sspreadsheet from my windows computer to my mac and i wanted to continue my work but i realised excel onn mac had a problem calculating the age, which i didn't face on windows.
so it looks like this:
so on windows i got the differencce (the age) but on mac i get #value! ... so i seearched more and found oout that if i change the date format to 03/08/1988 it would work but i habe 1259 dates and i don't want to do it, is there a way to make excel on mac understand and calculate with the old date format like in windows?
date 1 date 2 formula 03.08.1988 05.05.2014 =B1-A1Explanation / Answer
I did a fair amouunt of playing aaround with date formats on my machine, and I cannot get excel to recognisee anything with a decimal marker in it as a date. So I ssuspect you might need to bite the bullet and change them. If you want to try the thing that I thought would be most likely to work (but don't get your hopes up, because I couldn't make it work on my machine) it is as follows: Select all the cells with dates in them > right click and go to "Format Cells" > Pick custom in the left column, then in the format box type dd.mm.yyyy > In theory that should work, but i can't get it to in practice. If it does come to you needing to change the format of it all, I believe there are some handy formula for changing dataa across a lot of ccells, however I am not au fait with them. If I can find them I will post them heree.
