Question

"Data Hierarchy"  Please respond to the following:

One great example of how I use the data hierarchy to organize my own files in a Windows environment is in how I manage my school work. I have a main folder called "Strayer" which is located on my C: drive. Within that folder I have subfolders for each class that I am taking (BUS-100, CIS-106, etc...). All of my reports and projects are stored within their respective subfolders which makes it much easier to determine where a file is located or where I need to store the file I am currently working on.

One unique file type that I can think of is a .rar file. This is a unique type of compressed file that is created with special software (WinRar is a common one). Factors that make this a unique file type is the extension (.rar) and the fact that it cannot be read by just any piece of software, it first must be converted into it's original format (whether that be a .mp3 or .gif) before it can be read correctly.

Explanation / Answer

Data priorities are given depending on their usage.

a) If you use a specific data everyday like work, you can dock those data files/folders to your dock/ start menu.

b) If you use it regularly but not frequently, then you can put them in their respective drives.
