Apply the policy analysis model and ideas regarding sweatshops from the readings to a prominent recent case in Bangladesh. Briefly stated, a number of American and European firms which sell clothes have been buying them from local firms in Bangladesh. One of those firms operated out of a building which turned out to be very unsafe. It collapsed, killing over 1000 workers.

Identify at least two alternatives which American and European firms could consider in terms of how to respond to this situation.

The situation that is visible here is a common situation where we have observed multinational corporates accepting the services from workers of a country which is weak economically and financially. Today in business we see the presentation layer of the organization which is quite decorated but the preparation layer of the organization which is actually the production sector is not at all in a convincing state. Countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, etc. are involved in the production sector of such multinational organizations and the organizations just hire service of the workers from such countries at a very low expense. The concept of sweatshop is such an instance where manual workers are employed at a very low cost and work for hours which are not even imaginable and this mostly visible in the clothing industry.

American and European multinational organizations should take the responsibility of such a situation so that the organizations and the workers involved in the supply chain are also maintaining basic standards which are in sync with the quality of the actual organization. They should have teams dedicated to assess the situation in which such workers work. The payment of such workers are also very less and that should also be standardized based on certain conditions and it would be better if the directly involve in the matters instead of going through a mediator who actually makes the situation worse for the workers.
