Que. Do you think other states and cities should adopt laws to raise the minimum age of tobacco purchase.
Ans. Yes, other states and cities should also participate in increasing the minimum age of purchase of tobacco as it can be very effective in decreasing the death toll due to cigarette smoking. The main target age of tobacco companies (17-20years) can be abolished by this way. Schools can be made tobacco free as students can be kept away from tobacco.
Que. Do these laws intinfri on civil liberties and individual personal freedom?
Ans. In my opinion, these laws don't infringe on civil liberties or individual personal freedom rather they are for the benefit of one and all. The adverse effects of tobacco smoking are onto the life an individual.Avoiding tobacco purchase in this group will ultimately lead to socially and mentally sound society.
Que. What else could be done to help prevent teenagers and adult from smoking?
Ans. Following can be done:
1. Counselling- It plays a crucial role in preventing tobacco addiction as well as in quiting tobacco addiction. It can be done by parents, relatives or a counselling expert.
2. Selective Peer Company- Students should be highly selective in their choice of friends. Most of the addictions come from peer pressure. So, to combat that students need to be vigilant and their parents also need to be vigilant about their child's friend circle.
3. Daily Report- Daily report of deaths due to tobacco smoking should be printed.
4. Self Help Groups- If a person develops addiction anyways, he/she can join Tobacco Free groups. These groups help in quitting smoking.
5. Medication- Proper medication for quitting smoking should be administered.
