Question

23.) If you are concerned with the health of your heart, you might be aware of your triglyceride level. Triglycerides are not soluble in water, but the enzymes that digest them are found only in a water environment. How does your body allow triglycerides to be digested?

24.) Cholesterol is both crucial to the body and a cause for concern for those with cardiovascular issues. What does the body need cholesterol for? Do you need to eat foods containing cholesterol? What is the concern about cholesterol and the heart?

25.) In a protein supplement that contains 154 total kcalories, 11 grams of protein, and 17 grams of carbohydrate, how many kcalories come from protein and what percentage of this product's total kcalories are from the protein? Remember to explain why this is important information.

26.) Describe a macrobiotic diet. What are a proponent's arguments for the diet, and what do critics point out regarding the diet?

27.) Plant growing conditions, harvest time, moisture content, food handling, packaging, cooking amount/method, and other factors affect the vitamin content of foods when you eat them. Explain the factors that you have control over which can reduce the vitamin content of foods.

28.) Both fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins are important to the human body. Describe the differences in absorption, transportation, and storage within the body between the two types of vitamins.

29.) What are the possible effects of chronic mild dehydration? How do you know if you are mildly dehydrated?

30.) If too much salt/sodium in our diets is a problem, why is it so easy to find foods high in sodium? Has it always been so prevalent in the human diet?

Explanation / Answer

DIGESTION OF TRIGYCERIDES IN THE BODY : Triglycerides are type of lipid( fat) that may saturated or unsaturated according the type of fatty acid that have. Triglycerides are digested in two steps, emulsification and enzyme digestion.

To start the digestion of triglycerides, first of all they (unsoluble) have to emulsifiesd with the bile juice (secreted by liver) that converts it into soluble fat micells. After emulsification of triglycerides they can be digested via pancreatic lipase as hydrolysis ( reaction that occurs in the water soluble environment) and after completion of digestion that gives fatty acid and glycerol molecules would be absorbed by small intestine in further steps.
