0 Styles Styles 4) In Chapter 3, we learned a bit about the brain. Use this information as well as your general knowledge and other sources to answer the following question. Use Figure 1.3 of your text (slides 22 and 23 of Chapter 1) to identify how the following S body systems that influence the function or well being) of the brain, or that are affected by the brain. In your answer, state 1 reason why each system is important (or not important) for brain function. For example: The circulatory system provides oxygen and nutrients and removes CO2 and wastes from the brain. (5 marks) a) Digestive system b) Respiratory system c) Skeletal system d) Muscular systemExplanation / Answer
Answer.
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM:
The complex food that we intake, is broken down into the simpler one by digestion. This simpler food will derive energy through respiration and supply it to brain, which it requires to carry on many vital processes. Moreover, the brain and the gastro-intestinal tract are so intimately connected to each other, this can be easily observed in times of stress and anxiety, when brain causes discomfort feeling in the stomach and asks for a nature's call.
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM:
Respiratory system carry on catabolic reactions to derive energy from the glucose molecule. This energy is in the form of ATP, this energy currency reaches the brain through the circulatory system and helps brain driving various important functions.
SKELETAL SYSTEM:
The skeletal system provides support to the muscles and protect the internal organs. The hard skeletal system of the skull bones protects the internal vital structure, brain. Vertebral system protects the spinal cord.
MUSCULAR SYSTEM:
Cerebrum, the largest part of the forebrain controls the action of many voluntary muscles that are confined to the forelimbs and the hindlimbs. Muscles receive signal from the motor or efferent neurons and work accordingly. Thus, brain controls the movement of our limbs.
ENDOCRINE SYSTEM:
Both brain and endocrine system helps in the control and the co-ordination. The master gland, pituitary is a Pea sized gland located in the brain itself. It is known as a master gland because it is controlling the function of another glands in our body. It's releasing and inhibitory hormones controls the functioning of other glands like, thyroid, adrenal glands etc
