A 38-year old woman visits the hospital complaining of a fever, pain, swelling in her lower left leg, and muscle spasms. She reports that several weeks earlier she had received a severe dog bite to the leg that was still healing. Blood tests revealed an elevated leukocyte (white blood cell) count. A bone scan detected necrosis in the fibula of the left leg.

1.osteoporosis

IT means porous bone.the bones in this case are weaker and prone to fractures. This bone disease occurs when body loses too much bones or makes to little bone or both.osteoporotic bones have lost density of mass and contain abnormal tissue structures. Decrease in density of bones result in decreasing strength and resulting in fragile bones. It's more common in women's after menopause because of reduced release of estrogen. In osteoporosis Wbc count may increase.

2.Osteogenic tumor:- it is a cancer that starts in bone.it often starts in the ends of bone where new bones form as young person grows. It's most common in children. The cause of osteogenic tumor is unknown.

Symptoms include pain in affected bone , swelling.

3.OSTEOMYELITIS:- it is a bone infection in most cases a bacteria stapylococcus aureus cause osteomyelitis.

Causes:- diabetes sickle cell anaemia HIV , recent injury, low blood supply .

Symptoms:- fever fatigue nausea swelling. Necrosis in fibula.

Osteochondrosis:- it is family of disorders that effect growth of bone in children and adolescent.blood flow disruption is often a cause of it .It is most common in children and teenagers upto age 20 yrs .

Symptoms

Pain in affected joint swelling tenderness, joint popping, locking and weakness.

The most appropriate cause of the above described symptoms is due to the osteomyelitis. Osteoporosis may also be a cause of above mentioned symptoms .

The above symptoms would not due to osteogenic tumor because it occurs in young children and youths.

Osteochondrosis also may not be the cause as it is also common in children .
