Question

This question is based on the Pate Memorial Hospital Case.

PMH: WS #6: Observed Patronage Patterns by Time of Day

Assume that the clinic is treating 20 patients/day (see Case Ex. 5).

Time period             % of patients       # of patients             Patients/hour

(see p. 9 (46))

11 AM - 2PM                  70%                              14                                  4.7

            Other (5 hours)             30%                              6                                    1.2

            Overall                            100%                            20                                   2.5

Address the following

a)         Compare the patient incidence in the above table to the desired rate of 4 Patients/hour. What specific problems do these data pose for the PMH clinic? Explain your logic.

b)        Suggest approaches to solve the problem from

                        - demand side (modifying patient behavior)

                        - supply side (modifying Clinic behavior)

Which of the above 2 approaches would you recommend? Briefly explain. You may incorporate modern technology such as websites, texting, social media etc. if you wish.

c) Briefly consider the issues posed by the complex decision process (including the role of insurance) in your answer (see WS #3).

Explanation / Answer

Question 1

The witnessed patient’s incidence in the above PMH Clinic is very low and not up to standard for the clinics that are modern and that are worth operating in the modern days. There must be something wrong in the upper management of the clinic, or they might not be informed enough to embrace the opportunities that can best help them in seeing that they record a much better number of patients at the end of the day. It is never clear of the specific problem that they might be going through. This can only be known if at all a given interested party pay them a courtesy visit or the respective patients that go for treatments are the few parties that can ultimately have an idea of the bottom-line based on the very issue (Marcus 925). The public can only be left guessing but will never get to the bottom-line of this matter but to guess for an option as it is evident above in the questions based on the upper management operations. The problem options are either the top management board is full of issues, or the entire employees in different departments are never delivering well following the laid down policies for one reason or the other. The problem can as well be lack of being informed on the best and recommended ways that they can best work on the strengths and weakness that are internal factors so that they may deliver much better. This is not forgetting the opportunities and threats that are external factors that can as well put them in the better place to compete with their rivals since this are external factors. Then lastly the firm may not be making good use of the social media as well.

Question 2

The best way that the clinic can try modify their patients that happen to their clients, in this case, is by ensuring that they are weekly served in time without any discrimination. The clinic should also consider that the entire clients come from different background and so the prices must always be very fair and friendly to ensure that all the clients can easily access their services. The clinic should at least offer some medicines for free for a given period that can even be of two to three days as a way of motivating the clients and attracting more. Lastly, they should always be offering the after sales service were necessary as this will as well play a very vital role in the customer attraction at the end of the day (Lavigne 200). On the supply side, that is based on the modification of the clinic behavior is more concerned with ensuring that the respective employees are well served so that they may be delivering pretty well following that which is expected of them. This can be done by increasing their salaries not necessarily by a bigger percentage but something that will keep them motivated and feel a sense of appreciation so that they can always deliver much well. The firm can as well offer promotions to varies employees that are witnessed to have done soothing worth it so that it can as well make the other parties work an extra mile with that promotion in mind.

Question 3

The issues that are discussed above, when put in practice, will be working much better if only both the parties are willing and sincere with one another hence a success record at the end of the day (Alfred C 930). The issue of insurance is as well very vital and should always be considered in that this will ensure that the clinic is well taken care of in the matters that may come up in the future. This is the case that will require security issues based on money and the clinic might be bankrupt at the moment and not in the position to do so. The clinic should as well advice the respective clients on the need to save with the insurance for cases of their health issues that may arise and may get them unawares based on the finances.
