Question

BLOOD TRACER: "Blood doping" is an unscrupulous practice among certain athletes. Prior to an athletic event, the individual is transfused with an additional volume of his own blood, previously withdrawn and frozen. This gives the athlete additional oxygen carrying capacity over others competing in the same event. Trace a blood cell that has been transfused in this way from the point of origin of the transfusion (the right brachial vein) to the upper left leg, then to the duodenum, and from there to left cerebral hemisphere, and finally to the liver (where it will deliver oxygen to the hepatocytes). When the blood cell enters the heart, mention the valves it will pass through. Be sure to indicate all the capillary beds the blood will pass through.

Explanation / Answer

Blood doping is an unscrupuious practice amongcertain athletes. In autologous transfusion the individual is transfused with an additional volume of his own blood.Red blood cells(RBCs) carry oxygen to the body tissues when the stored blood is returned to the body there's sudden boost in the RBCs.Those cells carry higher the normal amounts of oxygen to muscles enhancing the performances.

When the blood cell enters the heart it enters right atrium through Vena cava in deoxygenated blood. As the Atria contract ,the atrioventricular valve open up due to pressure of blood against them.So it travels tricuspid valve. The ventricle then contract and forces into pulmonary artery through pulmonary valve.Atrioventricular valve close to prevent it from flowing back in to the right atrium. Then travels to the lungs to get some oxygen through pulmonary artery.
