1) patient administration system- it provides data in the form of hospital episode statistics. This is defined as an administration system because it is designated to allow retrospective data entry. This is preferred because the data contains informations about diagnosis, procedures and outcomes.

2)HCPCS- It is regulated by HIPPA which requires all health care organisations to use standard codes for transaction involving healthcare information.

ICD-10-CM and ICD-9-CM

1)the former includes more than 68000 diagnostic codes as compared to only 13000 in ICD-9-CM

2)ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes contains three to seven digits as compared to only three to five digit system in ICD-9-CM

3)ICD-10-CM includes twice as many categories as compared to ICD-9-CM
