3.Ans: Label for the arrow(up and outward): Pectoralis major.
Label for the arrow( down and inward):Sartorius(parallel;non fusiform).
In the fourth week of gestation limb buds appear as miniscule elevations on the ventrolateral body wall. The upper limb buds are visible on day 24 at C5-C8 and the lower buds are recognizable around day 28 at L3-L5. The differentiation of the upper bud into hand and lower into leg is wholly dependent on their positional location. The development of the lower limb happens simultaneously with the pattern of cranial to caudal differentiation. The distal tip the ectoderm condenses into the Apical ectodermal ridge(AER). The AER marks the dorso-ventral boundary of the limb. The steps involved in AER formation are(i) induction of precursors(ii)migration of precursors and (iii)compaction of ridge. The mesenchyme bound FGF10 induces the AER. The AER then produces the key morphogen FGF8 . The mesenchyme right under the ridge is called the Progress zone (PZ)and is the site of cell division/elongation of the limb.
