2. (6 points) Your blood contains various plasma proteins. A) Describe how one of those plasma proteins is involved with the innate (non-specific) immune response B) Consider your answer for part A. Is the protein that you selected originally produced in an inactive state (i.e. it needs to become activated to function). Why is it in an inactive state at first? C) Describe how another plasma protein is involved with the adaptive (specific) immune response 3. (3 points) You have a patient whose pleural cavity has been punctured. Whet is ihis condition calle and why does it cause a collapsed lung?

Explanation / Answer

2) Blood contains various plasma proteins-

Pre-albumin,albumin,globulin,fibrinogen and prothrombin.

A) globulins are involved in immunity they produce antibodies.

B) globulin has three subtypes; alpha globulin, beta globulin and gamma globulin.

Globulins are produced in inactivated state.

For example: gamma globulins gets activated into various types and forms active immunoglobulins involved in immunit.

Alpha globulin is the precursor of angiotensin which is activated by renin.

Alpha and beta globulins are released by macrophages which are the cellular components of innate immunity.

C) gamma globulin is involved in adaptive immunity.

B lymphocytes secrete antibodies.

3) the condition is called as thoracentesis or pleural aspiration.

It is performed when pleural effusion occurs.

Lungs get collapsed due to increased pressure( air in the lungs is responsible for this).
