What behaviors by leaders are most effective for teams and what responsibilities does the leader have to meet team needs? 1 Ans:- Hill's team leadership model talks about identifying team requirements and providing solutions to fulfill them, thus increasing the effectiveness of team. There are four components of this model:-
a. Decision of leadership:- The leadership should take decision that can lead to achievement of team's objective.
b. Leadership action at internal level:- If team's performance is not happening then leadership should intervene like goal setting, coaching, managing conflict, fulfilling individual member needs etc.
c. Leadership action at external level:- This is mainly done at environmental level like; interaction with upper management to improve team's performance, alteration of goals, comparision with peers, highlighting team's success etc.
d. Effectiveness of team:- Out put quality of team and cohesion among team members are important to produce result.
Leaders should exibit supporting behavior with team. They should find the gap an try to fulfill that gap. They must lead from front to motivate the team.
I have lead a team of 10 sales man to increase the sales. I have given enough training and made them skillful so that they can deal with any customer's query. Also I have identified indiviual capability and delegated them tasks accordingly.
2 Ans:- A leader can behave differently in different situations. He might get irritated, happy, supportive and encouraging based on different situations. A task motivated leader delegate responsibility to the team members which includes goal setting, defining the role of individual and providing basic directions.
A relationship motivated leader listen to team members and provide them support. He might take the matter with senior management to support his team.
I had a hard time achieving my sales target. So I have done goal setting for the team as well as identified their problems. There was technical deficiency to support the sales force for which I have taken the matter to senior management and got it done.
Listening to team members and helping them with their problem has greatest impact on members because then they respect you as an individual and give their best to achieve the objective.
