B. Differentiate between open angle and angle closure glaucoma in terms of their pathology manifestations and treatment.
C. Later in the week the mother notices that the child does not seem to hear as well as he did before developing the infection. Is this a common occurrence, and should the mother be concerned about transient hearing loss in a child of the age?
Explanation / Answer
A) Glaucoma is a condition in which there is an increased intra ocular pressure caused by a wide variety of reasons such as diabetes, hypertenasion, alcoholism, usage of corticosteroids bacterial infections etc. Aqueous humour circulation disturbance by any cause results in its accumulation and results in Glaucoma. Aqueous humour is a transparent watery fluid secreted by ciliary epithelium in the posterior chambers lies between lens and iris from there it passes to anterior chamber lies between cornea and lens and gets drains into trabecular meshwork at iridocorneal junction into schelmms canal and aqueous veins.
B) angle closure Glaucoma less common also called narrow angle Glaucoma in which the angle of iridocorneal junction is reduced or blockage in the drainage canals. Develops very quickly, less common.
Open angle Glaucoma is the most common type caused by wide iridocorneal angle occurs due to blockage at drainage canals due to coagulation with increased intra ocular pressure. Causes diabetes, age, hypertension usage of drugs etc.
C) child stopped hearing after infection is due to might the side affect of the antibiotics used to treat certain bacterial infections.. because few antibiotics are ototoxic and can cause hearing impairment in children at very early ages.
