One of the most pressing health issues in the US is smoking. In this week's discussion consider what you know about smoking and discuss the consequences of smoking. You can address consequences to the individual, to their families, to the community at large. You can also present some solutions. In your repost this week talk about ways to help people stop smoking. If you have personal experience with smoking we appreciate your sharing if you want to share your own experiences trying to or succeeding with quitting.

"Smoking is dangerous to health" everybody knows but do we know what damage it can do to the individual or to the people around him/her to the environment.
Most people start smoking considering it is a cool thing to do or even if they don't like it *all the cool kids are doing it*. That means mostly under peer pressure.
Smoke has nitcotine, tar, carbon monoxide, acetone. None of which is safe for your body.
Smoking is addictive. The more you get the more you want. It may put you in anxiety or you will start having anger issues if you are not able to get it when you want it because of addiction. Nicotine is basically responsible for this.
In the oral cavity, tobacco smoking causes blacking discoloration of teeth which is uneasthetic to see.
It increases the chances of oral cancer. The precancerous lesions like leukoplakia may develop.
On the gingiva smoking may decrease bleeding but on the periodontium it has very damaging effects. It causes early tooth loss.
On the cardiovascular system, it has many I'll effects too.
Smoking causes narrowing of blood vessels which can lead to high blood pressure, decreased blood flow to the periphery of body which may lead to gangrene, stroke and heart attack can also occur. Heart attack can also occur in those who are receiving second hand smoke.
Smoking dulls the sense of taste and smell.
Smoking has so many ill effects on the lungs.
Risk of cancer in lungs is high with smoking. The smoke keeps the alveoli dilated which results in breathing problem or issues with purification of blood which may lead to blood cancer.
Smoking can lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in which the patient has difficulty in breathing due to construction of the airway.
There is persistent coughing in people who smoke. There occurs bronchitis that is inflammation of bronchi. These all can occur to second hand smokers too.
In women smoking causes buring of the cilia in the birth canal.. leading to difficulty in delivering the baby.
It can cause early menopause too.
There are many ways to help a person stop smoking. On an individual level,or to your family member.
There comes tablets which allows the person to not smoke. It descreases the will of the person to smoke.
The person should be supported by the family. Love and care by the people arround him/her helps the person in a positive way.
The person is asked to reduce the quantity day by day and then stop it.
