Her goal is to have no cholesterol in her body. She asked you for advice on achieving this goal. Is her goal realistic? Explain. What information should you give her to help establish a more realistic goal? Assuming she could vanish cholesterol from her body, what would be the endocrine consequences?Explanation / Answer
Her opinion of eliminating cholesterol from her diet or not having cholesterol in her body is wrong. her goal is not realistic too.
cholesterol existed in two major forms those are LDL (low density lipoprotein) and HDL (high density lipoprotein).
LDL cholesterol is commonly called as "bad cholesterol" and causes harm to the body.
HDL is commonly called as “good cholesterol” because it is protects and insulates the body
Cholesterol is an important component in the human body. which plays an important role in Hormone production (estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, aldosterone and cortisone), Vitamin D production, Bile production which aids in digestion and vitamin absorption and Cell membrane support.
Cholesterol also plays a vital role in both the creation and maintenance of human cell membrane.
The normal range of total clolesteol for the adults is considered as 200 mg/dL
The normal range of HDL cholesterol is considered as 35 to 65 mg/dL
LDL cholesterol levels should be less than 100 mg/dL
if these levels increases more than normal then all harmful effects occurs in the body
hence i shoud advise her to reduce the cholesterol foods in her diet but not to eliminate cholesterol completely.
if one could vanish cholesterol from her body, there are several endocrine disorders such as cushing syndrome, infetility, sarcopenia coz of decreased concentration of estrogen and post menoposal complications. because all the hormones utilizes cholesterol for the synthesis.
