Question

eWeek 7 Critical Thinking Exercise For the Week 7 Critical Thinking Exercise, you will answer the following questions using your critical thinking and reasoning skills: 1. Injuries to the spinal cord can result in paralysis. Typically, injuries higher on the spinal cord would result in a more serious injury. Explain why 2. What symptoms would one exhibit with damage to their oculomotor and facial nerves? 3. What occurs to a nerve during axonal shearing? Why would this cause a loss df communication? Task 1: Create a new discussion post on or before Friday at 11:55pm EST by clicking the "REPLY HERE post. Your initial response to this activity should include your answer to each of the questions above. Each answer should include a minimum of 5 senterbs. For instance, if there are 2 questions above, your response should include at least 10 sentences (5 per answer). Explanation / Answer

The injury in the higher region of spinal cord results in the damage of the cervical region which causes paralysis of all limbs such as hands, arms and legs.

Symptoms of damage of oculomotor nerve:

1) Lose of pupillary constriction to light and results in pupillary dilation and unresponsive sensitive due to paralysis of sphincter muscle.

2) Lose of strength of eyelid muscle to close and open the eye.

Symptoms of damage of facial nerve:

1) Distortion apperance of face along with difficulty in making facial expression and in closing eyes.

2) In sensory loss of certain areas of face which produces numbness and unable to chew.

3) No sense of taste and also results in hyperacusis which results in hearing of sound abnormally loud and causes pain in the region behind the affected region.

During axonal shearing the axon of the neuron in nerve are stretched until they are torn and causes neuron to dies. This effect on the communication because nerve impulse are unable to travel throughout the nerve to reach the axonal terminal and thus to generate response.
