A) Infats body weight is composed of great porpotions of fat

b) Infants basal metabolic rate is lower

c)signifcant lower percentage of a infants total weight is water when compared to older kids

d) infants have a high rate of water turnover

2. Vomiting and diarrhea result in hydrogen ion disturbances by causing?

A) Significant loss of bicarb in stool

B) lower renal function and excretion of hydrogen ions in urine

c) Decreased blood flow which produces lactic acid

d) none of the above

e. two of the above

f. 3 of the above

Explanation / Answer

ANSWER:1 Infants are most vulnerable to dehydration and it may be most critical in them. the predominant cause of dehydration in infants is small reverse of water loss. They can not recover the amount of water than they loss it through stool or via vomit.

ANSWER 2. Vomiting and diarrhea results in hydrogen ion disturbance, the most dominant cause of that is excessive loss of bicarbonate ion in stool. Bicarbonate loss in through stool also creates metabolic acidosis that disturbs H+ concentratration.
