Explanation / Answer

Drug Tolerance is a Classical Conditioning process. As a person starts to get habituated with the intake of a particular Drug, the Drug-taking pattern or process (bottle opening, a needle or a chillum) triggers a signal that anticipates the intake of the Drug in the body. This gradually develops a response in the body that secretes Drug Antagonists that help reduce the effect of the drug in the body. This reduces the body's response to the Drug creating Drug Tolerance.

The regular pattern of Drug intake for a person, including the place and setting of intake, acts as the Conditioned Stimulus (CS) followed by the Physiological changes and adaptation to the Drug in the person. The Physiological changes and the Adaptation to the Drug are the Conditioned Response (CR). If the person is subjected to a different process, place, and set-up for Drug intake, it becomes an Unconditioned Stimulus (US) for him and he may show different Physiological properties as the Drug anticipation process has been restricted. The new Physiological responses to the same Drug in the changed setting are the Unconditioned Responses (UR) and can be very serious.
