Explanation / Answer

Jean Piaget introduced his four stage cognitive development such as sensory motor which lasts fro two from birth, pre-operational from 2 till 7, concrete operational from 7-11 and formal operational from 11 years onwards. The seven year old boy has mastered the concept of conservation that normally occurs at the end of pre-operational stage and at the beginning of concrete operational stage. But the exact age is between 6-8 as it differs from child to child. It refers to children's ability to determine that the quantity remains the same even though the size or shape of the container's been changed.
