Sure Thing Instructions After reading Chapters 1-4, watch the following video of a rendition of the play titled Sure Thing. Wan, F. (2014, December 7). Sure thing by David Ives [Video file]. Available at: https://youtu.be/_1MX7Ifn678

After watching it, write your reactions in a paragraph of at least 6-8 sentences in which you focus on discussing 2 to 3 ideas presented on these chapters that you see taking place in this meeting. For instance, you could focus on principles of communication, self-awareness, the Johari window, impression management techniques, listening barriers, listening differences according to gender, disconfirmation and confirmation, just to mention.

Explanation / Answer

There were many interesting things taking place in the video such as excellent body language, very good eye-contact, quick exchange of words etc. I think impression management was one thing both the boy and the girl were trying to do. The girl was showing off her intellectual capability as she was looking at the book she was holding for a long time and the boy was trying to impress the girl with his witty comments. He was pretending to know things that the girl knew. Secondly, there were lots of repetition as to confirm until a point where the speaker has to utter what the listener wanted to listen. Thus, this short piece of exchange with lots of listening barriers such as ringing the bell every now and then and the audience laughing.
