Question
> Moving to another question will save this response. Question 6 of 3D- Question 6 0.5 points Save Answer Gold (our ice cream store) is looking at its entire system to find process efficiencies. The process involves the following four steps with the average time in seconds in parentheses next to each step. Right now one employee performs each step and they must be performed in this order. 1. Take order (20 seconds) 2. Prepare ice cream (90) 3. Add gold flakes (15) 4. Add other toppings (20) 5. Take payment (25) Jeremy redesigns the process so that two employees perform step 2 and one employee performs steps 3, 4, and 5 together. (He decides a fifth employee is no longer needed.) It would then look like this 1. Take order (1 employee) 2. Prepare ice cream (2 employees) 3. Add gold flakes, other toppings, and take payment (1 employee) What is the new capacity of the process in customers per hour?Explanation / Answer
Capacity of step 1 = 1/20 per seconds = 3600/20 =180/hr
Capacity of ice cream preparation = 2* (3600/90) = 80/hr
capacity of step 3 = 3600 / (15+20+25) = 3600/(60) =60/hr
Since step 3 has lowest capacity, it is the bottle neck and process capacity is equal to capacity of bottleneck
Hence, new capacity = 60/hr
