Eating Habits You are interested in studying people's eating habits throughout the day. To do this, you decide to use a questionnaire. Discuss, in a 1-page Microsoft Word document, how you will develop a rapport with participants, any considerations or potential risks you will consider, the environment and context in which the participant will complete the questionnaire, and how you will recruit or select participants. To study the eating habits of people via a questionnaire, it is important to build rapport with them. Rapport is a harmonious state of understanding created with another individual or group, that facilitates effective and easier communication and compliance. It means ‘being on the same wavelength’ as the other person, by finding what the two people share in common.

The participants should feel welcomed. To build rapport with the subjects one has to use non-threatening and safe topics during the initial conversation or introduction. One has to lend his ears to the subject and look for shared experiences, to get along well with him or her. One can introduce humour in the initial and friendly conversation. A rapport or bond is also created by being empathetic towards the subjects and understanding their point of views and opinions. To build a rapport, one has to be conscious of his or her body language and other non-verbal signals one is sending to the other person.

To complete the questionnaire, the participants have to be provided a context or environment, which is free of confounding variables. These confounding variables are the potential risks or considerations in an experiment or research. A confounding variable is an extraneous variable, which can influence or alter the expected results of an experiment or the effects of an independent variable. Since, they can disturd the entire purpose of a research or experiment, by adversely affecting the results, they need to be controlled. Thus, the environment can be kept noise free (confounding variable), so that the participants can complete the questionnaire smoothly and can concerntrate properly on the questions, without any distractions.

Selection of participants is termed as sampling. Sampling can be divided into probability and non probability sampling. In probability sampling, one can specify the probability that a participant will be selected from a population, which is not possible in case of non-probability sampling. Under these two types of sampling, there are various methods of sampling. The type of sampling depends on how one will use the information. To study the eating habits of people, random sampling can be used. This is a procedure by which a sample is drawn in such a way that each member of the population has an equal probability of being included in that sample. To study the eating habits of people, participants belonging to different age groups can be selected via random sampling and studied.
