RESEARCH PROPOSAL

To: The Director

From: xxx

Date: 15 July 2018

Subject: Proposal to write a report on the importance of learning international languages as a part of the curriculum.

PUPRPOSE:

To make the students understand the importance of learning international languages, which will help them to gain knowledge and also improves their ability to communicate in various languages other than their vernacular language.

BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM:

Implanting international languages as a part of the curriculum is very benefitial because, the student may not take initiative by themselves to learn a new language, but when they are given a oppurtunity or if they are made to learn it as a part of their education, they would be more willing to learn it. Though they might initially hesitate, they must be given proper guidance on the importance of learning the international languages.

Learning international languages could be very useful in the student's career, because they might have high employement oppurtunities globally, as they are skilled at other language that makes them eligible to work at various places other than their own country.

Other than the employement oppurtunities, the students also gain confidence that they would be able to communicate with people who belong to different nationality and of other languages. They would be able to explore on different parts of the world and get to know about other people's culture, tradition, and life styles.

If the students are not provided with such oppurtunities to learn international languages, they would be restricted from their potentials, and they might not have enough oppurtunites to utilize them. This might make the students feel inferior to the other students who are skilled to communicate in other languages. This eventually reduces their oppurtunity to work in other parts of the world other than their own place. So, the students must put in efforts to learn international languages which will promote their skills and abilities.

Providing such a course in learning international languages not only benefits the students, but the College also gets benefited because it improves the quality and standard of the institution in teaching students with various subjects that would him help them in their career and future.

QUESTIONS TO BE INVESTIGATED:

At the initial stage of my research, I would like to identify and address various questions like:

- What are the students opinion of making the international languages a part of their curriculum?

- What are the International languages that would be most useful to the students?

- How many such languages could be included?

- What are the methods that could be used to make the students interested in learning it?

- How does the students get benefited by learning international languages?

- How does the college get benefited by offering such course?

- What are the opinion of the lecturers and the managent in providing such a course?

My research is broadly classified in to 3 aspects, i.e the students perspective of learning new languages, the College lecturers perspective of providing a new course to the students, and the benefits of the course for both the students and the college.

METHODS FOR RESEARCH:

I am planning to conduct my research through a Survey and by providing questionnaires to the students and the lecturers in obtaining data regarding their perspective in making the international language course as a part of the curriculum.

I would also read on various articles that would emphasise on the importance on learning international languages. I am also planning to visit scholars on various language and would include their opinion regarding my topic.

TIMETABLE:

I am hoping to complete my data collection within a month, and then I would take around 2 weeks for completing my consultation with the scholars. And within a weeks time, i would be done with my draft which I would be presenting you by the first week of September. Then, with your guidance and implications on my draft, I would make the necessary corrections and prepare the final copy of my research report and submit it to you by October 1.

REQUEST FOR APPROVAL:

Thank you for your support and for approving my plan for this background report. I welcome any further suggestions and comments on how you think I might best proceed with it.

CONCLUSIONS:

From my Research, I hope that the students would be benefited by learning various international languages that would help them to succeed in their life. And also, the College would be benefited by providing such useful course to the students.
