The world is developing at a pace that every individual needs to keep up with it. Parents of every child want the best for their kids. With the increasing pressure on the young kids to excel, parents enroll their toddlers to preschools between the age of 2-3 years. Most children these days are very smart and grasp information taught to them easily. Social interactions at preschools contribute to the development of cognition and social skills in a child. However, a screening test is mandatory for entering kindergarten. These screening tests measure the information that has been learnt by the child already and most importantly how much of it is retained. A test which is developed to assess aspects of cognition in a child, like, memory, thinking, language, perception and intelligence, is administered and depending on the results, the child qualifies for entering kindergarten.
Some kids are smarter than others, while others may be intelligent but may suffer from developmental disorders like learning disorders and communication disorders. The screening tests detect if a child suffers from dsylexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia or speech disorders which would make it difficult for the child to cope up the with the increasing difficulty in curriculum of kindergarten. These tests are very useful in a parent's understanding of their child's developmental problems. Parents could either consider an additional year at the preschool or could take necessary steps involved in intervention and treatment of developmental disorders like, speech therapy and special education which will hep their child cope up with the milestones with regard to entering kindergarten.
