During the Juvenile Rights Period (1960-1980) there were several significant US Supreme Court cases that expanded the due process rights of juveniles, very similar to the development of adult rights during that same period. As time progresses the US Supreme Court has specifically addressed the difference in rights (protections and considerations) for Juveniles who are convicted of Murder. In July, 2012 the US Supreme Court ruled that a term of life incarceration without parole for a Juvenile homicide offender, is considered to be cruel and unusual punishment.
