Question
Explanation / Answer
Research is a systematic process of collecting and analyzing information to increase our understanding of the phenomenon under study. It inculcates scientific and inductive thinking and promotes development of logical thinking. Research involves answering a question or solving a problem.
Research process includes acquiring knowledge of theories, reviewing the literature, looking for gaps which could be new subject for research, trying to frame a question or hypothesis to solve the issues in an innovative way, selection of methodology, data collection and analysis, interpretation, and mentioning rationale and scope for further research in this field.
Framing a question or hypothesis formation plays a vital role and is a backbone for any research. Following are some research questions to be worked on to find solution through research:
(I) Youth perspective on employment-is employment perceived as both pride (internal satisfaction) and financial fulfillment or as only financial need providing instrument.
This research question tries to solve the issue what is the expectation of youths with employment, why employment needed, is it only to earn money or have pride. If pride is considered as need, then why only money cannot buy the pride.
The audience for this research is young generation who are looking for job or already got 1 or 2 years experience. This research plays a major role in determining interests of the youths in joining workforce, which boosts the employee productivity and growth (Herzberg, Motivation-hygiene theory).
The research tries to identify weightage given to the different factors considered as outcome of employment; those factors are salary as a financial factor, healthcare benefits, social acceptance, motivation at work, etc. This research question analysis for which youth gives much weightage, through which employers can infer what is needed for prospective employees, so that good productivity can be achieved.
Possible challenges are huge spectrum of samples to collect data and analyze. There may be bias while answering survey.
(II) Ageing issues-is ageing only physiological or also sociological (need for belongingness/care) issue. Ageing issues are viewed as elder people having physiologic issues like dementia, issues with neurotransmitters, poor blood glucose control, renal or heart disease. There is also another perspective like elders with poor coping skills, poor medicine adherence, noncompliance with diet or clinical appointments, irritability, loneliness, etc.
The intention of the research is to identify common cause for both physiological and psychosocial issues faced by elders/ageing people.
Ageing people from across the state can be sampled and assessed for the issues they are facing and what is their view on those issues. Example: If irritability (behavior) is the issue, then the cause according to them is issues with memory (which is both physiologic and psychological).
This research is important to determine not only physiologic aspects of issues of ageing people, but also psychosocial aspects, so that issues can be effectively addressed. Some difficulties faced conducting this research is collecting the data for analysis from the elders as they may be not cooperative with the researchers or gets easily irritated with questions. Observational research cannot be done as this will not provide holistic view and is inappropriate in collecting subjective data related to psychological aspects.
(III) Perception of health in middle-aged group-is it only physiologic or is it includes psychosocial dimension. This question tries to identify how health and healthcare perceived by middle-aged group, to make healthcare utilization more effective.
Middle-aged group are usually working community and perceives good health as vital for their continuation of work and avoid disability. If it is viewed health as absence of illness, then it is physiologic in nature. Example: Afebrile, alert and oriented with stable vital signs. If the health is viewed as presence of strong motivation to work more and cope with social/financial stressors, then it is psychosocial in nature. Example: Feeling energetic to solve problems and help others in doing so.
The target group is middle-aged people, who have to financial, health, social responsibility as taking care of children, trying to climb up at work, getting a good housing, etc. Here, the question is how this group of people views health and healthcare for their benefit. We try to solve do people in this age group, see good health are imperative factor for achieving their goal and illness as hindrance to do so.
Possible difficulties faced in this research is conducting survey which many does not like to participate or give biased responses. Also, survey is not only the sufficient tool for assessment, and further research with medicine consumption and physician appointment compliance should be studies which requires higher levels of permissions and time.
