Explanation / Answer

Dear parents,

I’m writing to you as one of the teachers, and I’m primarily engaged in taking care of the class that your son is studying. I believe, the purpose of my letter is for the greater development of your child and this might be the most appropriate time for him to learn this. I feel that a child of his age, 6 years, should learn the importance of empathy. Yes, we as adults do realise how empathy means to understand the feelings of us and our closed ones, but at this age, the child doesn’t. And hence, I request you to inculcate these habits in him, along with the teachings that we impart in school. If at this age we teach children how feeling what other people fell, not only helps him to develop a a sense of feeling and trust with the other person, but also allows the child to develop morals such as humility, forgive ness and better understanding of the needs of other people.

In order to teach empathy to children, we are constantly praising any student who is helping their fellow students. This is going to encourage generosity amongst kids. We are also constantly trying to boost the morale by play acting and also reading stories in which helping and support are the prime lessons.

As a teacher, I would request you to promote these behaviours at your house as well. Children learn through observation, what they observe is shaped into their mind and they tend to imitate the same. This results in modeling of the same behaviour and the child tends to do the same, I would also request you to always talk polite, be helpful to people and encourage the children sharing among siblings as well as neighbours.
