Explanation / Answer
1. As we go to high altitude, the partial pressure of oxygen in ambient air decreases.oxygen saturation of hemoglobin also decreases. VO2 max also decreass.As we go higher gases will expand so atmospheric pressure decreases. Effcts of light and gravity also decreases partial pressure of oxygen.
2.At sea level due to normal atmospheric pressure, the transport of oxygen is mainly by hemoglobin whereas at sea level the 2,3 DPG increases so that there is more release of oxygen in the tissue level.
3.Immediate physiologucal adjustments are hyperventilation, tachycardia, increase in 2,3, DPG. where as long term adjustments include increase in RBC count, cardiovascular changes, cellular and tissue acclimatization, increase in total lung capacity.
5. Adaptations of hemoglobin mass and circulatory volume causes offset of acclimatization in oxygen transport.
