Explanation / Answer

Kidneys regulate blood pressure by changing blood volume. When the blood pressure is low, the juxtaglomerular cells in the kidneys secrete renin into the blood. Renin converts the plasma protein angiotensinogen to angiotensin I. This in turn is converted to angiotensin II by angiotensin converting enzyme from the lungs. Angiotensin II stimulates adrenal cortex to secrete aldosterone. Aldosterone retains water and sodium by increasing their tubular reabsorption.

1) Renin is secreted by the granular cells of juxtaglomerular apparatus. Renin is secreted in response to decreased renal perfusion pressure, signals from the macula densa and beta adrenergic stimulation.

2) Renin converts the plasma protein angiotensinogen to angiotensin I. This in turn is converted to angiotensin II by angiotensin converting enzyme from the lungs.
