Explanation / Answer

1. It is important to clarify a team's purpose because if the team is not aware of the objective based on which it is formed then it is difficult to explain success and performance from the team because the team will not be directed towards its objective.

Once the task is given, clarification is necessary so that the task is completed with due diligence and possess and quality is maintained in the task.

2. The role that this purpose play in team membership is to make the members or potential members aware of the working and functioning of the team. I believe that others have excused themselves from the team because they were not at all sure about what the team actually did and their objective and purpose. This confusion led them to leave the team.

3. The team is leader is less effective based on the level of effectiveness the person should possess because if there is any issue, then the team leader should be able to resolve and direct the team towards its objective but in this case we do not witness any of that.

4. These techniques could have an opposite effect if the scribe or timekeeper or using agenda is not well defined and is not sure of the meeting details. If it is not decided that which team member will take up the particular role then it will lead to confusion and loss of time in the meeting. We observe such an instance in the meeting too when there is issue while selecting the time keeper.

5. In order to get the process back on track I would defined the objective of the meeting beforehand, the agenda of the meeting would have been communicated and the role that the members will play also would have been defined. The new members of the team has to be introduced as everybody is not aware of their presence and their role. The agenda that was defined would have been discussed one after the other and minutes of the meetings are noted down for use in the future. I believe that these initiatives and approach will get the process back on track.
