Question
1)A tissue has many cells that appear cuboidal on the bottom but have a spindle shape as the tissue changes. There is little extracellular matrix. Keratin protein fibers are important to the tissue. Name this tissue and give a likely location for it. What is this type of tissue good for? Be able to do this type of reasoning fo any type of tissue.
2)How does blood get to the cells of the stratum basale? To the osteocytes? The chondrocytes? Why do these cells need a blood supply close by? What are the critical components of blood that all cells need and why does the cell need those components?
Explanation / Answer
Question1
Answer
The tissue is Transitional epithelial tissue. This tissue have Variable appearance. during the unstretched condition they look like stratied cuboidal epithelium except the apical surface. during stretched condition they appear as stratied squamous epithelium. These cells have basal layer and attached to the lamina propria through tonofilaments and hemidesmosomes. The intermediate layers are proliferative and can replenish cells lost due to abrasion or infection. tonofilaments are the are made up of keratins.
Transitional epithelia are found in the urinary and male reproductive system in humans.
These allows urinary organs i.e bladder to stretch and maintain protective lining while holding variable amounts of uid without causing damage..
