LEMS is a presynaptic disorder of neuromuscular transmission. In this disorder antibodies are formed against voltage gated calcium channels. Calcium channels are needed when synaptic vesicles in presynaptic neuron releases neurotransmitters which binds to post synaptic neuron. Absence or deprivation of calcium channels leads to absence of chemical transmission. The absence of calcium gated channels will hinder the release of neurotransmitters from the synaptic vesicles.
