Question

There are three types of cystic fibrosis-identify them among the following choices. The channel protein fails to reach the cell membrane from its site of production but cl- enters the cell rather than exists. The defective channel protein fails to reach the cell membrane from its site of production inside the cell. The channel protein is incorporated into the cell membrane but fails to bind ATP. The channel protein is formed but is not released from, the secretory vesicle. The channel protein is incorporated into the cell membrane and ATP is bound to the channel protein, but the channel does not open.

Explanation / Answer

Answer:

There are three types of the cystic fibrosis:

in which the channel protein reaches the cell membrane from its site of production but Cl- ions can only enter the cell membrane they cannot move out of the cell because there is the production of the sticky mucus on the outside of the cell which block the Cl- ions to move out of it.

As we know that the cystic fibrosis is caused by the mutation occurs in the Cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator which impairs the function of the protein. As, the CFTR is the cell membrane or plasma membrane protein. So when the CF occurs the defective channel of the protein fails to reach the cell membrane from its site of productiopn inside the cell.

and the third one is the channel protein is incorporated in the cell membrane and bound to ATP but it fails to open the channel to move the ions inside and out of the cell.
